Upcoming MTG Sets 2022 & 2023

Looking forward to upcoming MTG sets? That’s great, because here’s all the information you’ll need. We’ll take a look at all Standard and supplemental sets that are coming out in 2022 and 2023. (At least the ones that we know about currently.)

For each set, we’ll provide a short description of what to expect. If that’s not enough for you – don’t worry, and just click on the appropriate spoilers page (where available). There you’ll find, not only spoilers, but also all information we currently have about the set.

Let’s get right to it.

Upcoming MTG Sets 2022

There are four main sets that are releasing in 2022:

  • Kamigawa Neon Dynasty (already released)
  • Streets of New Capenna (already released)
  • Dominaria United
  • The Brothers War

As you can see, two of these were already released, and we’re waiting for two more.

Dominaria United

Dominaria United Set Symbol Upcoming MTG Sets

The second return set in 2022 takes us to Dominaria, a popular old school Magic plane. In fact, it was the Magic’s plane at the beginning of the game. So it makes sense, that it is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the game. It’ll talk about the history of Dominaria.

For the fans of MTG lore, this is going to be an even more special set, as Dominaria United starts a four set story arch, in which the fate of Dominaria will be decided. Not only that – the events here could have consequences on all Multiverse!

The Brothers’ War

So, two brothers are apparently fighting a war. Who? Well, no other than Urza and Mishra! These are two insanely powerful characters from Magic’s past. This set will be a bit different from others – at least flavor wise, as it’s describing an event, rather than a world. Furthermore, it’s an event happening in the past of the Magic’s lore, so that’s something new as well.

One of the interesting things about The Brothers War is that the set will further explore some underrepresented tribes from the early era of MTG.

Universes Beyond

Various collaboration products were also announced, as part of the Universes Beyond. Most of them, such as Fortnite Secret Lair were already releases. Currently, we’re waiting for one more set, but it’s going to be a big one.

Warhammer 40k is coming to Magic with four Warhammer Commander decks! This set won’t have boosters, but will instead focus on the precons.

Supplemental Sets

In 2022, we’re also getting multiple big supplemental sets. Two of the following ones were already released, but we’re still waiting for two more.

Baldur’s Gate

First, we got Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate. It had a similar multiplayer draft format as the original Commander Legends. Naturally, the set had some quite good Commander cards. Baldur’s Gate was released on June 10th, 2022.

Double Masters 2022

This set’s gimmick is at least two rares per booster pack. You can find more about how these boosters work in our Double Masters 2022 Booster Guide. The set featured a bunch of amazing reprints, and it was released on July 8th, 2022.

Unfinity

Unifinity was supposed to be the first supplemental set in 2022. However, due to various delays, it was pushed further down the timeline. Nevertheless, we finally have its release date, and it’s October, 7th, 2022.

Unfinity is the fourth Un-set. That’s an unusual joke set with silver border cards. It’s called Unfinity. The set will contain shock lands with artwork set in space. You can find all MTG Unfinity information here, where we go into more details about this fun set.

Jumpstart 2022

A new Jumpstart set is the last big supplemental set of 2022, with its release on December 2nd. This set will feature the well-known gameplay of Jumpstart. You use two boosters, mash them together, and you get a deck to play against another Jumpstart player.

Upcoming MTG Sets 2023

We already have some information about the upcoming MTG sets in 2023 as well. Let’s take a look at the Standard sets first.

Phyrexia: All Will Be One

  • Release Date: Winter 2023
  • Set Symbol: unknown

This set continues the storyline, which started in Dominaria United, and continued in the Brothers’ War. We’re going to Phyrexia!

March of the Machines

  • Release Date: Spring 2023
  • Set Symbol: unknown

This set wraps the story that we’ve just mentioned. Will it be the end of Phyrexians once and for all? The set will be followed by the March of the Machines: Aftermath.

Wilds of Eldraine

  • Release Date: Fall 2023
  • Set Symbol: unknown

The third set marks the return to the fairy-tale world of Eldraine.

The Lost Caverns of Ixalan

  • Release Date: October 2023
  • Set Symbol: unknown

The fourth Standard set of 2023 is another return. We’re going to explore Ixalan, once again. However, it’s changed since The Immortal Sun is no longer there.

Supplemental Sets 2023

Dominaria Remastered

A set that features card from various Magic sets that were happening on Dominaria. This set will be draftable. The first card that was shown from this set was the iconic Force of Will.

Universes Beyond 2023

Tales of Middle Earth

Universes Beyond will start strong in 2023, with Lord of the Rings Magic set. While it won’t be Standard legal, it will be legal in Modern! It’ll feature the full booster lineup, and it’ll also come to Arena. There will be four Commander decks, and Secret Lairs too.

Other Universes

Wizards also announced the following collaborations:

  • Doctor Who

Conclusion

That’s all upcoming MTG sets that we know about so far. Once we get more information, you’ll be able to find it right here. If you don’t want to miss it, make sure to follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

Until next time, have fun and may your favorite trope get its own Magic set soon.

    • Why is Fortnite the one where you lost the respect over? They have been doing stuff like this for years now… Secret lairs have been around for a while with all sorts of cringy crossovers including the walking dead crossover. Not to mention they released a standard legal D&D-themed set and have an upcoming modern legal LOTR set….

In comparison the fortnite ones are just novelty reprints of cards…

MTG has been grabbing for cash for years now with a steep powercreep and very mediocre mechanics..

  1. The Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate spoiler is over. At the beginning I was not excited, BUT when I saw Firkraag, as a paladin fanboy I am and that I praise the mythical holy avenger Carsomyr until today, I was hoping to see the sword at this collection, specially because I want to see how would Wizards tranform it at a card. Unfortunately the card wasn’t at the list.
    Sorry for this rant.
    Hope you enjoyed the collection.
